Ushering in a new season means we’ll see the continuation of trends and the emergence of new ones. Here are seven trends, a little bit of analysis, and of course, my opinion.

Sustainable fashion: The trend of the century

Sustainable and eco-friendly fabrics like linen, organic cotton, and hemp will be everywhere this season. The fashion world is leaning into sustainability more than ever before, making this less of a trend and more of a transformation.

Pastel colors and floral prints: Spring Classics

Classic spring themes, pastels and florals rein supreme during this 2023 season.

My favorite trend subcategory: rosettes! usually seen on cakes, this youthful detail is the perfect accessory

Oversized jackets and blazers: Fall favorites made for Spring

Seen last fall (and likely next), the oversized outerwear trend perseveres. Including oversized clothing into our closets will endure. Baggy, utilitarian jeans, oversized varsity jackets, and blazers will be staples this season.

Wide-leg pants and culottes: How wide can we go?

As much as I appreciate a wide leg pant, I’m gonna have to pass on the culotte trend. Personally, I’ll be trading in culottes for tailored wide leg pants and tapered trousers.

Statement jewelry: Pearls, gold, and shoulder grazing earrings

Moving into 2023, some believe bold is better. Others believe simple details with minimalist layering is the way to go. Honestly, I say go for both! Big jewelry adds fun touches to any outfit, and minimal layering elevates the simplest of ensembles.

90’s inspired trends: Animal print making a comeback

Will fashion ever let go of the 90s? I think not. The nineties brought a myriad of trends, and while we might regret some of them, many have persisted. Of the 90s spring trends, combat trousers, blush pink and oval sunglasses are my personal favorites. Our obsession with denim rears its head yet again, as we upcycle our old jeans and turn them into maxi skirts, or turn the waistbands into tube dresses.

Sheer fabrics and mesh detailing: Keeping spring fun

Sheer fabrics and mesh detailing add a touch of delicacy and flirtation to outfits. Whether it shows up in tights, mesh tops, or the scandalous sheer skirt, I’m here for it.

My favorite trend idea: Colored/printed mesh! While I don’t think it will last, it’s perfect for the defining burst of color that defines spring. Incorporate other 2023 spring trends, and wear cobalt blue or fire engine red sheer fabrics.

The new season is the best time to experiment, whether it be with established trends or your own personal style. Embrace the colorful nature of the season, repurpose your old jeans, and have a bit of fun!
